FAQs- Acupuncture

  1. How does acupuncture work? Acupuncture is based on the belief that the body contains a vital energy, or qi, that flows through channels called meridians. When the flow of qi is disrupted, it can lead to illness or pain. Acupuncture is believed to restore the flow of qi and bring the body back into balance.
  2. Is acupuncture safe? Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a trained and licensed practitioner. However, it is important to choose a practitioner who is properly trained and follows infection control procedures.
  3. Does acupuncture hurt? Acupuncture needles are thin and solid. Some people may feel a slight pinching sensation when the needles are inserted, but this is usually brief and mild.
  4. How many acupuncture treatments will I need? The number of acupuncture treatments needed can vary depending on the condition being treated and the individual patient.
  5. Is acupuncture covered by insurance? Some insurance plans cover acupuncture, while others do not. It is best to check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage. We only accept BlueCross BlueShield.
  6. What conditions can acupuncture treat? Acupuncture is often used to treat chronic pain, such as back pain, neck pain, and osteoarthritis. It is also sometimes used to treat conditions like headaches, anxiety, and insomnia.
